What’s your mindset?
Do you look around and feel jealous of others? See areas that you are lacking? Spend time wishing things were different? This is a scarcity mindset and it is SO easy to slide into – especially when you see all the fun things people are posting to their social media! That wasn’t a thing 20 years ago when you likely had less than you do now!
Not only does social media wreak havoc with your thoughts, but advertisers play on this sense of lack you feel. The latest offering is just what you need to feel better about yourself, to fill a void, to bring some joy – but that feeling goes away so quickly…
How do you turn those scarcity feelings around and live a life of abundance?
1 – When you get up in the morning, think of something you are looking forward to that day. Maybe it’s the first cup of coffee or lunch with a friend or your child’s soccer game. If you can’t think of anything, then ADD something to your day! How about a phone call to someone you haven’t talked to in awhile or planning your favorite meal or taking ten minutes to read a good book? Don’t add to your stress, but consider small changes that are easy to make.
2 – Challenge yourself to stay off social media today. Or set a timer so that you get a ten minute fix instead of mindlessly scrolling.
3 – Look for little things that make you smile throughout the day. The sky is bright blue, your neighbor’s flowers are blooming, your spouse sent you a funny text, your coworker brought in cookies. Don’t let these little moments pass you by without recognizing them!
4 – Journal (you knew I was going to say that – haha!) Before bed, write down 3 things you are grateful for. Make them different things each night. It can be one of those little moments you noticed or it can be the bigger things that you take for granted. Afterwards, reflect on your day and write one thing you accomplished that day.
Gratitude is an Attitude
I know you’ve heard that before – but it is true and it is SO helpful in creating an abundance mindset. When you take time to recognize all that you have, it is easy to forget what you THINK you don’t have! Will you never worry about money again? Unlikely. Will you never feel jealous again? Also unlikely! But you certainly won’t wallow in those feelings of lack.
